The Norway vs Senegal World Cup clash in Group I delivered a high-intensity encounter as Norway secured a 3-2 victory at the New York/New Jersey Stadium on Monday, confirming their qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32.
It was another Erling Haaland moment as he doubled his tally with a second goal of the night to boost Norway’s attacking prowess and further extend his influence in the tournament. The match will keep Norway in the lead for six points over Group I rivals France, paving the way for the decisive final round-robin game.
France are currently in the lead on goal difference (+5 compared to +4 for Norway), and will only need a draw in their final game to take first place. On the other side, both teams enter into an almost deadlocked group stage finale on Friday in Foxborough.
Senegal, on the other hand, have no point after their two games and are in danger of being knocked out. Their last chance to redeem the tournament at Toronto is now against Iraq in their group stage clash, but it is unlikely they will have a chance to secure a spot in the tournament.
Norway’s big breakthrough was made in the first half in the 43rd minute when they brought on Marcus Pedersen. The goal was scored after a defensive error from Kalidou Koulibaly who picked up a pass meant for Haaland but lost it in a key area. Pedersen was quick to capitalise on the error, taking the lead before half-time.
The match saw Norway leveraging the errors made by opposition players into clear-cut wins, and Haaland, as usual, continuing to stretch the defenses to breaking point in the attack.
