Cristiano Ronaldo’s Ambition Goes Beyond World Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo has brought new standards to the legacy and ambition one more time, showing that the FIFA World Cup is not the dream of his life. In an interview that was made to anticipate his sixth appearance at the World Cup, the Portuguese superstar clarified that he is no longer driven by just one tournament.

Holding the world cup trophy is the ultimate goal of success to most footballers. In case of Ronaldo, though, legacy cannot be diminished to just several matches of competition. The forward openly challenged the question of judging a whole career by six or seven games, as that would not make a difference in his history in football.

Rather, Ronaldo is pursuing what will have been much more permanent; the record number of 1,000 career goals. The Al Nassr forward is still playing on an elite level at an age when most of the players have already retired. With only 42 goals left to the historical mark, Ronaldo seems to be on the right path especially considering that he has been scoring frequently, as has been the case in the Saudi Pro League.

At the Globe Soccer Awards, Ronaldo once again made it clear that he needs trophies and records but that the only actual impediment to his quest to become a football immortal is an injury. The positive expectations are that he will have reached the 1,000-goal mark by September 2026.

Another point that Ronaldo made was about the current GOAT debate, where a world cup victory was considered necessary to confirm the greatness. He emphasized the transformation that had been made in Portugal by his leadership since the country had never won any international trophy prior to his rule.

On the one hand, Ronaldo is still determined to focus on club football. Al Nassr are now ranked second in the Saudi Pro League only one point behind Al Hilal as leaders. As the season is yet to enter its prime, Ronaldo seems to be determined to lead his squad to a league title- which again goes to show that his ambition has not yet arrived at the stage of diminishing.
