Alba has been a member of Barcelona’s roster since 2012 when he was acquired from Valencia. During his time with Barcelona, the Spaniard won both the Champions League and La Liga. Alajendro Balde, a 19-year-old left back, has surpassed the 34-year-old veteran this season. For Xavi’s team this season, Alba has logged 1721 minutes on the pitch in all competitions, while the teen has tallied 2823 minutes. He reportedly wants to stay on as Balde’s backup.

However, the source above claims that Xavi thinks Marcos Alonso is a better choice than Jordi Alba. In June of 2024, Alba’s contract with Barcelona will be up. According to reports, Xavi has already warned Alba that his playing time will fall much further next year. Earlier in the season, Xavi adopted a similar strategy with club legend Gerard Pique. Pique was only able to start four games in La Liga before being forced to retire.
