Will Son Heung-min Face Messi in MLS?

The newest signing of LAFC Son Heung-min expressed excitement that he gets to play on the pitch alongside soccer legend Lionel Messi on the major-league soccer (MLS) platform as reported by the international media on Friday.

Son arrived at LAFC as part of a league-record $26 million transfer with Tottenham Hotspur that topped the previous record of $22 million Atlanta United FC paid last winter to steal Emmanuel Latte Lath.

Since joining MLS, Son has expressed that he can only feel honoured to share the field with legend Messi. He explained also that the Argentine superstar was one of the reasons that made him join the American soccer league.

“It’s huge. I am talking, we are very fortunate to see Lionel Messi in the same generation and play football. Being an avid fan watching him play, beating all those goals, coming to MLS, I think it will influence so many other players and it even influences me when I think of what he has done to his club and done to his country. It only did change my mind as well,” Son said.

I have been exceedingly fortunate that I play the same pitch with him.

Son has 454 appearances in his old club Tottenham, and 173 goals in those games. In the 2021-22 season he also won the Premier League Golden Boot.

Son Heung-min, who joined Spurs in August 2015, won his first trophy with his new club having beaten Manchester United in the Europa League final.

Son also became the seventh player in Spurs history to make 450 appearances. He has already been a representative of Bundesliga teams Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen.
