Will Mohamed Salah World Cup captain lead Egypt?

Mohamed Salah World Cup captain has been named in Egypt’s leadership squad for the FIFA World Cup. The star forward is likely to carry the captain’s armband as he was included in the preliminary 27-man squad for Egypt at the tournament.

The most important role in the team’s formation remains with Salah, who is currently 33 years old. He has netted 67 goals in 115 games for Egypt. His experience, expertise and leadership will be key as the Egyptians prepare for one of the largest tournaments in world football.

Manchester City winger Omar Marmoush and Barcelona U19 under-19 prospect Hamza Abdelkarim are also among the squad. Incorporating Abdelkarim demonstrates that Egypt is looking to develop their own talent with veteran players. But it is a surprise to see that Nantes attacker Mostafa Mohamed is not included in this preliminary list.

Head coach Hossam Hassan will trim the team to 26 after a friendlies with Russia in Cairo. Egypt will also face Brazil in a major warm-up in the U.S. before the match with Bolivia.

Egypt has been seeded in Group G. They will play against Belgium on 15 June, New Zealand on 22 June and Iran on 27 June. It will be a test of experience and depth in the squad that both of these matches will put to the test.

The FIFA World Cup will be hosted from 11 June to 19 July in the United States, Canada and Mexico with a total of 48 teams in attendance. Egypt’s goal is to make a big impression on the world stage.

Much attention will remain on Salah’s leadership. His last major trophy in the international arena with Egypt will be his legacy outside of the football arena. He will have to lead a balanced team on the road to an exciting group stage night.
