The possibility of Marcus Rashford returning to Manchester United is a reality again with doubts arising about his future with FC Barcelona.
Head coach Michael Carrick has not ruled out the comeback of the forward and the situation is still open since there has been no result of the negotiation. Now aged 28, Rashford has not featured in the United team since December 2024. It has not been smooth sailing since then.
He has had a loan stint with Aston Villa, and he has been offered a temporary move to Barcelona in the 202526 season. The Spanish giants had a condition of transferring the transaction permanently at 30million. But there are recent reports of reluctance on the Barcelona end with talk of re-negotiating or even postponing payment.
The role of United seems to be obvious. The club is not keen on renegotiating the agreed fee or changing the structure. Should Barcelona choose not to exercise the clause, then Rashford should not be forced out to Old Trafford but be brought back to the club.
Interestingly, his stay in Spain is not unnoticed. With 12 goals in 43 appearances, Rashford has shown signs of rediscovering form. On the inside, there is the emerging belief that his performances have in fact, boosted his value in the market.
This puts a peculiar circumstance. United may re-unite with a more confident and experienced Rashford or gain greater transfer interest. Until now it lies in the hands of Barcelona. However, there is one thing that is certain- the Manchester United-Rashford story is not necessarily over yet.
