Will Lionel Messi Lead Argentina to Victory Against Venezuela?

Cristian Romero signed a long-term contract with Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, ending concerns over his future.

After Son Heung-Min left for Los Angeles FC, the 28-year-old Argentina international became captain this summer. He had two years left on his deal. Romero’s new contract runs through 2028-29, reports said. His contract predicament raised worries about his future, with Atletico Madrid showing strong interest throughout the summer window.

However, Spurs have secured one of their most important players for the foreseeable future. Since joining north London in 2021, Romero, a World Cup and two-time Copa America winner, has been crucial to Ange Postecoglou’s team.

His fierce defence, leadership, and dominating presence at the back have been key to Tottenham’s reconstruction under the Australian boss.

Club sources called Romero a leader for the next generation and stressed his role on and off the pitch in the new deal. His long-term commitment boosts Spurs’ hopes of regaining a dominant position in English and European football.

The new contract is good for Spurs’ new manager Thomas Frank, who led the team to a 3-0 Premier League season-opening win over Burnley on Saturday.

Tottenham will continue to construct their defence around Romero until 2029 as they seek trophies and Champions League football.
