Why is Jeremie Frimpong sidelined for Liverpool?

British news outlets stated on Thursday that Liverpool’s Jeremie Frimpong will be out of action until after the September international break because he hurt his hamstring.

Frimpong, who is 24 years old, hurt himself during his first Premier League game against Bournemouth, which Liverpool won 4-2 last week. The right-back won’t be able to play in games against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Monday or Arsenal at Anfield on August 31.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot told the press about Frimpong’s injury and said he would not be able to play until the conclusion of the international break.

Slot said, “The medical team was completely right to tell me to take Jeremie [Frimpong] off because he is out until the end of the international break, and that happened during the game.”

“I guess people were mad at me for taking him off, right? We, the medical staff, thought he had a problem with his hamstring, but it had nothing to do with how he played. Taking him off was the right thing to do. We think he’ll be returning after the international break.

The first international break of the season will last from September 1 to September 9. Liverpool will play again after the break on September 14 against Burnley.

In May, the Premier League champions bought Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for £29.5 million to take Trent Alexander-Arnold’s spot after he transferred to Real Madrid.

The right-back, who can also play as a winger, was a key player for Leverkusen, who won the German domestic double in 2023–24. He scored 14 goals and set up 12 more in all competitions.
