Who is the first player to win three PFA Player of Year awards?

Mohamed Salah of Liverpool became the only player in history to win the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year award three times. He won it on Tuesday. The Egyptian forward has always played at the highest level since joining Liverpool in 2017, but his 2024–25 season stands out as one of the best of his career.

Salah scored 29 goals and set up 18 more, making him the Premier League’s leading scorer for the season. His brilliance was key to Liverpool winning the league title by 10 points over Arsenal.

The 33-year-old attacker also won the Premier League Player of the Season, the Golden Boot for most goals, and the Playmaker award for most assists, making him the only player ever to win all three awards in the same season.

Salah, who won the PFA award in 2018 and 2022, was at the head of a strong shortlist that included Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, and Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister.

Morgan Rogers of Aston Villa was voted Young Player of the Year after scoring eight league goals and a sensational hat trick against Celtic in the Champions League.

Arsenal midfielder Mariona Caldentey won Player of the Year after a great first season, and Canadian forward Olivia Smith, who scored nine goals for Liverpool last year, won Young Player of the Year before making a record £1 million move to Arsenal.

Four of Liverpool’s players, including Salah, were chosen to the Premier League Team of the Year, which showed how strong they were.
