West Ham United revealed on Thursday that Jamaica striker Michail Antonio left the club after the Premier League club did not renew his contract at the end of last season.
The 35-year-old had not played for West Ham since driving into a tree on the way home from training in December, breaking his thigh bone in four places. Antonio joined the London club from Nottingham Forest in 2015. He became West Ham’s Premier League record scorer with 83 goals in 323 games.
West Ham United provided training, facilities, and medical attention to the player after not renewing his contract. Michael will always be adored and appreciated by West Ham United. The Club will continue to support his rehabilitation by providing training, facilities, and medical treatment, as it has since December’, West Ham stated.
“Dialogue continues over his future involvement with the Club in an alternative capacity – including one that would enable others to benefit from his experience and leadership qualities – and he will forever hold a special place in our 130-year history.”
Michail Antonio helped West Ham win the Europa League 2023 title after 43 years.
Antonio returned to the spotlight in June as a CONCACAF Gold Cup substitute for Jamaica against Guatemala. West Ham’s Premier League season begins on 16 August against Sunderland.
