Liverpool FC’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday will honor former player Diogo Jota, and Jota’s family is expected to attend, Arne Slot said on Saturday.
Jota’s wife Rute Cardoso and children will attend the match. A catastrophic automobile crash in Zamora last month killed 28-year-old Jota and his younger brother Andre Silva. The club plans poignant tributes to Jota, according to media reports.
Players will wear black armbands for a minute’s silence before kickoff. A fan-led mosaic will be unveiled on the Kop and Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand, and the stadium’s large screens will display tribute words and photos.
Slot says the event will be ‘very emotional’ and expects Diogo’s relatives to attend.
“Since this is our first league game since losing Diogo and Andre, we know it will be emotional,” Slot added.
As I have stated before, the tributes given around the football world, and especially in the LFC community, have been incredibly remarkable, and I know we will honor them again tonight.
“I believe Diogo’s wife, children, and relatives will attend, and as a club, we must show them our love and support during this most painful time. We support them always.”
