West Ham Sink Leicester as Nistelrooy Struggles

As West Ham sailed to a 2-0 triumph against Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team at the London Stadium, Leicester’s woes at the bottom end of the table were more severe.

After their 4-0 loss to Brentford last time out, Van Nistelrooy was seeking for a comeback from his team but what he got was a poor display as they dropped to an 11th league defeat in 12 to stay entrenched in the bottom three.

West Ham stayed out of first gear, following up success at Arsenal at the weekend with another three points. When Aaron Cresswell’s forceful strike was followed in by Mohammed Kudus, who saw his effort brilliantly saved by Mads Hermansen, Tomas Soucek was alert to tuck in the second rebound.

The defending left lots to be desired, and once more they were undone right before the interval. Before the ball dropped gently for Jarrod Bowen, who squeezed the ball home from the narrowest of angles with a deflection from Jannick Vestergaard, Jamie Vardy neglected to handle a corner at the near post.

Like the first half, the second was quite low in spark.

Though they gave Evan Ferguson one last chance, the on-loan striker fluffed his lines when given a good chance to grab his first Hammers goal. West Ham itself seemed only to be playing for time as the game fizzed out.

West Ham advances sixteen points ahead of the relegation zone, while Leicester is still in severe jeopardy. With eleven games left, they still behind five points behind Wolves ranked 17th.

For Van Nistelrooy, time is swiftly running out.
