Vinicius Jr. continues to dominate La Liga

Opta reports that Vinicius has 40 shot-ending carries, more than any other player in La Liga this season. Carlo Ancelotti, manager of Real Madrid, updated fans earlier about Vinicius’s condition after the Brazilian sustained a knee injury in Saturday’s La Liga encounter against Almeria.

Ancelotti is too optimistic that Vinicius will make a speedy recovery after being taken off in the 82nd minute of Madrid’s 4-2 victory thanks to a hat trick from Karim Benzema. After picking up a yellow card against Almeria, Vinicius will be suspended for the upcoming encounter against Real Sociedad and miss today’s game.

“He has had a blow to the knee, but it is nothing, I think in a couple of days he will recover well, he is sanctioned for the next game and he will be fine for the Cup final,” the Madrid boss added.

Not even the ugliest player in La Liga has that many yellow cards. Therefore it’s shocking that he has 10, Ancelotti said. I think they’ve shown him too many yellows and not enough for the kicks he’s been given, but he does need to work on some things.

For Real Madrid, Vinicius has been instrumental in 84 goals scored since the 2021-22 season began. After Saturday’s game versus Sociedad, Real Madrid will play in the Copa del Rey final on Sunday against Osasuna. Three days later, the opening leg of their Champions League semi-final against Manchester City will occur at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Lazaro and Lucas Robertson scored for Almeria, but Benzema scored a triple trick for Madrid in the first half, and Rodrygo scored early in the second. Ancelotti’s side toyed with Almeria until the dying minutes when Benzema was denied by the post, and Madrid substitute Marco Asensio hit the post twice.
