Valentín Barco Emerges on Bayern Radar

Bayern Munich once against have been sweeping South America and this time the target has fallen on an ex-teammate of Lionel Messi Argentina formation. According to reports in Argentina, the Bundesliga giants are in the close pursuit of Valentin Barco who is one of the most multi-skilled young footballers that are already beginning to make a mark in the European football.

ESPN Argentina journalist Augusto Cesar reports that Bayern has now found a long-term target in Barco following his impressive performances in Ligue 1 with Racing Strasbourg. The 21-year old, who initially started out as a left back, has this season redefined himself as a central midfielder, and at that, with tactical maturity beyond his years. This development has not been overlooked and Bayern spies are said to have attended several games in Strasbourg after the end of 2025.

The European trip of Barco has been not a straight line. Opportunities were few after he was signed by Brighton & Hove Albion at a fee of EUR9.15 million out of Boca Juniors in early 2024. An unsuccessful attempt to find a short loan at Sevilla was not enough but the next step to Strasbourg turned out to be the decisive one. The French club triggered his EUR10 million release clause and locked him up through 2029, which currently appears to be an inspired idea.

In terms of statistics, Barco has been one of the most productive players of Argentina overseas, and he tops all Argentina in assists in the five most competitive European leagues this season. Nevertheless, he is still an outcast in plans of Lionel Scaloni even before the 2026 World Cup in spite of his form.

In the case of Bayern, Barco would be a profile that suits their changing midfield under Vincent Kompany technical, mobile, and positionally flexible. His market worth now worth more than EUR25 million, any possible acquisition would involve a huge outlay – yet Bayern seem willing to think long-term.
