On Thursday, Tottenham Hotspur confirmed Thomas Frank as their new head coach. They fired Ange Postecoglou even though they won the Europa League.
Frank departed Brentford after seven years to join Tottenham Hotspur, where he signed a three-year deal with the team that won the Europa League. Reports say that Spurs also looked at Marco Silva, the manager of Fulham, and Andoni Iraola, the manager of Bournemouth, before choosing Frank, 51, to replace Ange Postecoglou.
Postecoglou led Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years, the Europa League title, by beating Manchester United 1-0 in the final. The new hire was revealed by Tottenham in a statement.
Tottenham said, “We are hiring Thomas as one of the most forward-thinking and creative head coaches in the game.” The club further said, “He has a proven track record in player and squad development, and we look forward to him leading the team as we get ready for the season ahead.”
Postecoglou’s Europa League win was overshadowed by a terrible Premier League season that didn’t go as planned. They lost 22 league games and just avoided relegation by finishing 17th.
Frank is known for paying attention to the little things, so it’s hardly surprising that his Brentford team scored in the first 40 seconds of three straight league games last season.
“We have a plan for how to start the game, and we change it from game to game. Frank noted at the time, “We like to get straight on the front foot and be positive.”
Frank led Brentford to promotion from the Championship in 2021 after they beat Swansea City in the Championship playoff final.
Brentford came in 13th, 9th, 16th, and 10th in the last four seasons of the Premier League under Frank.
