John Terry, a Liverpool legend has come out publicly to support Mohamed Salah saying that the Egyptian striker has been turned into a scapegoat over the inconsistent performances by the club this season. Salah has been at the centre of Liverpool succeeding over the past few years; however, the criticism has been accruing against him in the recent past due to a series of games that he has been left out.
On Saturday, Salah started with no goal in a 3-3 draw between Liverpool and Leeds United, and it was his third consecutive Premier League game without playing a single match. The 31-year-old post-match comments reported that the club has thrown him under the bus, and he is frustrated. I have been doing a lot to this club over the years and last season was one of them. It appears that the club has put me under the bus. Somebody wants me to have it all the blame! Salah said.
John Terry, who analyzed the recent difficulties of Salah, condemned the strategy of the Liverpool manager Arne Slot. I believe he would be the first to tell you that he has not been in form this season, but I have to go along with him too. I believe he has been the scapegoat to a certain extent, Terry said. He emphasized that several players of Liverpool such as Salah have been struggling with form but the manager has chosen to replace the player which is not fair.
Terry pointed out that Salah is the most likely player who can change games around. There is one guy who is going to win you a game, and it is going to be him. It is quite a stretch on the part of the manager, then, to say that he must not go at all, and not even go when you need a goal, said Terry.
In this season, Salah has only appeared on the field in 45 minutes over the past three matches of the Premier League and has already scored only four goals in total in the competitions. He was the first player in the history of the Premier League to record the highest number of goals (29) and assists (18) and win the Player of the Month award last season. As Liverpool is struggling, the pressure is building up on both Salah and manager Slot in the course of the season.
