Swiss Top Group After Kosovo Draw

Switzerland secured their final spot in the 2026 FIFA world cup following a defensive 1-1 match with Kosovo on Tuesday evening at the Pristina City stadium. The finding held the Swiss undefeated in their qualifying program and they completed first in their Group B with 14 points.

The game started with a lot of intensity with Kosovo seemingly having the grimaciously intent to drive a theatrical end to the group stage due to the presence of a home crowd in the venue. But Switzerland kept possession in long periods of time and regained it. At the beginning of the second half their patience was rewarded.

Vargas stopped the scoreline in the 52nd minute when he received an inch-perfect through ball by Djibril Sow on the other side, timing his run perfectly to get behind the defensive line and then easily slotted his shot past the goalkeeper Arijanet Muric. The target momentarily shut down the stadium and tightened the stranglehold of Switzerland to the group.

Kosovo, with the knowledge that they must have a big win in order to beat Switzerland, moved attacked aggressively. They were rewarded with success in the 74th minute when Florent Muslija produced a moment of genius. The ball came outside the penalty area and fell into the possession of Muslija who then struck a curling ball to the top-right corner and left the Swiss goalkeeper, Gregor Kobel, in dismay.

Kosovo did not manage to create a decisive breakthrough even with the equaliser. Kobel and old defender Rodriguez took charge of the defensive unit of Switzerland and stood their ground. After the night, Rodriguez wrote about the complexity of the tactics in the night.
