Striker Joshua Zirkzee might join Man Utd for £33.7m

Joshua Zirkzee, a Dutch scorer from Bologna, is almost ready to sign with Manchester United for £33.7 million. The Premier League club is allegedly paying a small premium on the 23-year-old’s release clause to extend the payment time. This is to meet Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and transfer discipline.

Young midfielder Zirkzee made his start at Euro 2024 for the Netherlands after taking over for the injured Frenkie de Jong. The young forward went from Feyenoord to Bayern Munich in 2017 and then, after loan stints with Parma and Anderlecht, to Bologna for £7.15 million five years later. Last season, Zirkzee scored 12 goals in 37 games, which helped Bologna surprise everyone by making it to the Champions League.

United had to find a new striker because Anthony Martial’s deal ended at the end of the season. After Martial’s long injury breaks and Rashford’s slump, new signing Rasmus Hojlund took over as the striker. Erik ten Hag put Bruno Fernandes in as a false nine instead of Hojlund in the FA Cup final win over Manchester City.

United has changed their coaching team and made their attack stronger. After a change in coaches, Dutch great Ruud van Nistelrooy came back to help the team with his knowledge and skills. Another big deal was when Donny van de Beek moved from Manchester United to Girona.

Ronald Koeman put Zirkzee in his Euro 2024 team, even though he had only played as a substitute twice and for four minutes plus injury time. This showed that his reputation was growing. After Ollie Watkins scored the game-winning goal in the semi-final against England, he made his debut.

As this deal is being finalized, Manchester United is focusing on long-term financial management and building up the team for the season. If Zirkzee does come, it will help them improve their offense and fight in both American and European games.
