Spanish Morata and Rodri suspended for one match by UEFA

European soccer’s governing body announced on Wednesday that Alvaro Morata and Rodri were given one-match bans for their behaviour during a Euro 2024 presentation in Madrid last month. A public celebration in Madrid on July 15 after their 2-1 European championship final win over England featured the players singing “Gibraltar is Spanish”. Gibraltar, at Spain’s southern tip, is British.

UEFA claimed the punishment was for violating the general standards of conduct, basic rules of decent conduct, utilising sporting events for non-sporting purposes, and disgracing football. Players will be banned for the next UEFA international match they are eligible for.
