Spain World Cup Squad Without Real Madrid?

Spain World Cup side left without Real Madrid is one of the hot topics now before the next World Cup, with head coach Luis de la Fuente announcing a 26-man team with a lot of Barcelona influence. Spain have come into the World Cup as one of the favourites, but they have taken some (many) surprises in their squad. The Real Madrid players have not had a single representative at the national team since 1950. This is a dramatic change given the club’s success and supremacy on the European stage. Instead, De la Fuente has formed the backbone of his team out of players at Barcelona.

The eight players of the Catalan club are the backbone of the team. This involves vital players in defense, midfield and attack. The plan is a combination of continuity and chemistry, with many of these players already having played together on the field. Of note, however, is the fact that players such as Dani Carvajal and Dean Huijsen have been left on the bench. Their absence is indicative of the manager’s focus on system fit rather than reputation. It’s a clear sign of tactical thinking over relying on big names.

The Spain World Cup team without Real Madrid players also suggests that they are confident in an emerging younger and more united team. De la Fuente noted that he doesn’t care about club pride, just performance for the country. He gave no indication that anyone was chosen for a reason other than merit and suitability to his system. Spain will take on the challenge of bagging their second World Cup Championship, after winning it 2010.
