Son Heung-min Leaves Tottenham After 10 Years

Son Heung-min, the captain of Tottenham Hotspur, said on Saturday that he will quit the team this summer. This ends his incredible 10-year stay with the Premier League team.

The South Korean forward signed with Spurs in 2015 after leaving Bayer Leverkusen. He is under contract until 2026. He was one of the most important players for the club during his time there. Recently, he led Spurs to their first major championship in 17 years.

Son hasn’t said what he’ll do next, but reports from around the world say he will probably join Major League Soccer (MLS) team Los Angeles FC. The 32-year-old said at a press conference before Tottenham’s pre-season friendly against Newcastle United in Seoul that leaving was the hardest decision of his career.

“I’ve made the decision to leave the team this summer.” It was one of the hardest choices I’ve ever had to make in my football career. “I’m very proud that I stayed with one team for 10 years, but I think I gave the club everything I had every day,” Son stated.

The Spurs captain also thanked the team and its fans for helping him build his career.

“I did my best on and off the field, and after winning the Europa League, I felt like I had done everything I could here,” he stated.

“I am very thankful for this place because it helped me grow as a player and as a person.”

Son played for Spurs 454 times in North London over the course of ten years, scoring 173 goals and setting up many more. He earned the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021–22 season and is still one of the most famous Asian footballers in the league’s history.
