Following their 1-0 triumph over Manchester United here at the San Mamés Stadium on Wednesday, Son Heung-min jokingly referred to himself as a Tottenham Hotspur “legend”.
Following heartache in three past finals, the 32-year-old South Korean forward who joined Spurs in 2015 accomplished a great first major prise of his career both club and international level.
Son declared immense delight and labelled himself a legend following the game. Declaring himself as the happiest man, he said that in seventeen years no one had accomplished what he did.
“Suppose I am a legend. Not?” asked why not? Son said.
“Seventeen years: nobody has done it, so let’s say with outstanding players, [I am] most likely a club legacy.
“This is the fantasy I have always harbours. The day it occurred today. Right now, I am the happiest man on the planet.
Having 133 international caps, South Korean forward joined Spurs for £22 million from Bayer Leverkusener after scoring 29 goals in 87 outings.
He made his 454th Tottenham substitute appearance during a 3-1 loss to Manchester United. While Spurs was lost in the 2019 Champions League and 2021 Carabao Cup finals, South Korea lost in the 2015 Asian Cup final.
Heung-min described his emotions during the game; he felt under pressure and yearned for the trophy and triumph quite badly.
“I felt the pressure,” Son remarked.
“I wanted it so very much. Over the last seven days, I dreamed about this game every night. At last it happened, and I could sleep peacefully right now.”
