Slovakia 1-1 Romania: Romania tops group

Slovakia opened strong, pressing high and testing Romania’s back line. Dávid Hancko’s shot went past the bar after Juraj Kucka’s header caused the first chance. Romania quickly reacted, with Andrei Rațiu’s curler being perfectly saved by Martin Dúbravka. Francesco Calzona’s team had their best chance when Duda’s free-kick go wide. Within a minute, the Slovakia midfielder scored with a beautiful header.

Romania responded with another Rațiu strike, which Dúbravka blocked. After Romania won a penalty for fouling Ianis Hagi, parity was restored. Răzvan Marin converted strongly. The game fluctuated. Florin Niță blocked Lukáš Haraslín’s left-wing breakaway shot. Marin attempted to shoot from the box edge, but Dúbravka blocked him.

Dávid Strelec had a chance, but Niță saved superbly. Slovakia responded with a Haraslín curler that went wide of the goal. Both teams advanced to the round of 16, with Romania winning a EURO group for the first time and the Slovaks finishing third on four points.
