Ronaldo “no longer cares” of being the best player in the world

Cristiano Ronaldo admits he “no longer cares” about being the best player in the world, and he wants to help his teammates.

The 39-year-old Ronaldo joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in January 2023, following his exit from Manchester United. The former Real Madrid and Juventus superstar had scored in Al-Nassr’s 2-1 win against Qatari side Al-Rayyan in the AFC Champions League group stage on Monday.

“It’s not about whether I’m the best or not anymore, that doesn’t interest me anymore,” the Portugal captain said after the match.

“It is supposed to be good that the player scores goals, but for me, it means the team wins and that is Great”.

I’m used to beating records and don’t look out anymore; what is most important for me is to have fun and assist Al Nassr and my teammates in winning.

He won the Ballon d’Or on five occasions but has not been shortlisted for the 2024 award. After his 904th career goal, Ronaldo pointed at the sky and skipped his regular goal celebration.

“My goal against Al-Rayyan was different and important because my father would have been happy with it if he was alive, as today, Monday is his birthday, he added.

Back in August, Ronaldo said that he will probably retire with Al-Nassr.

“I don’t know if, in the near future, I’ll retire in two or three years, but probably I will retire here at Al-Nassr,” he said.

He helped Al-Nassr win the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023, though he has not won any domestic title and continental-level silverware with the team so far. Last May, Ronaldo became the top scorer in single season goals in the Saudi Pro League with 35. The Portugal captain also netted his 901st goal for club and country in a 2-1 win over Scotland in the Nations League last month.
