Ronaldo Extends Al Nassr Contract

An official from the Saudi team informed AFP on Monday that Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a contract extension with Al Nassr, adding another year until June 2026.

The official stated the sides had agreed on Ronaldo’s contract’s renewable renewal, “although it has not been formalised yet. Over the next days, an announcement will be issued”.

Ronaldo turned forty last week; his current deal expires in June 2025.

Joined Al Nassr in January 2023, the Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus great has since scored 82 goals in 90 games.

Ronaldo announcement

Ronaldo announced in August that he will remain at Al Nassr to the end of his professional career, maybe “soon or in two or three years”.

“But it´ll most probably happen with Al Nassr, in the team that makes me happy… and where I feel good.”

Moving to Riyadh’s Al Nassr two years ago in a transaction allegedly for $250 million, the Portuguese great seemed to trade an end-of-career payday for football oblivion.

However, his impact was evident when he was accompanied to the big-spending Saudi Pro League by a procession of older stars. Then, in December, Saudi Arabia was given the 2034 World Cup, the crowning glory for the oil-rich nation’s approach of rebranding itself via sports, tourism, and culture.

In just 90 minutes and 20 hours, Cristiano Ronaldo attracted one million subscribers when he started his YouTube channel in August. Right now he boasts 73.5 million. Though World Cup gold has most likely escaped him, unlike his Argentine rival Lionel Messi, records still hang before the five-time Ballon d´Or and Champions League winner.

Ronaldo is yet to win a Saudi or continental trophy with Al Nassr, despite his great form as he closes in on 1,000 career goals in official matches. With the Arab Club Champions Cup of 2023 his lone success with the team.
