Ronaldo Expects Booing Ahead Ireland Match

Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo has stated that he expects to be booed by the fans when the group comes to the Republic of Ireland in a FIFA World Cup qualifier game on Thursday at Aviva Stadium. The 40-year-old experienced player, who is in pursuit of his sixth World Cup appearance, thinks that the boos would relieve his colleagues.

Ronaldo remembered his sarcastic celebration when Portugal beat Ireland 1-0 in the rematch last month, in which he taunted the Irish defender Jake O-Brien following the stoppage-time goal of Ruben Neves. He vowed to be more restrained in advance of Thursday game. I will attempt to make a good boy of myself, I said.

Portugal is the current Group F leader and has won three of four matches, meaning a single victory could see it qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup. Ireland, which is placed third in the group, must get at least one point to hold their play-off hopes in front of Hungary in the last match. They are six and one points behind Portugal and Hungary respectively.

Ronaldo, who announced his retirement in one or two years, stressed that he was used to facing aggressive crowds. They will boo me in the stadium, but I am accustomed to it. I certainly hope they do. Perhaps it will relieve other players of the pressure,” he said.

Al-Nassr forward has been already scoring more than 950 goals in club and country, and his reputation as a prolific scorer in the game continues. Although the mood in the Aviva Stadium is likely to be very tense, Ronaldo said that he hoped the spectators will not lose their heads.
