RFEF Denies Madrid’s LaLiga Postponement Request

International media sources on Thursday said that the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) turned down Real Madrid’s request to move the August 19 game. As planned, the club will start their LaLiga season with a home game against Osasuna.

Madrid said they needed a longer break because they had just competed in the Club World Cup and lost their last match in the semifinals against Paris Saint-Germain. Madrid said that the date was a violation because they had the least time to recuperate and get ready.

“The minimum time for rest and preparation was not followed,” the club said.

The media say that the RFEF judge said they merely want to keep the competition fair, and Madrid’s appeal didn’t provide them a reason to change anything.

The only judge said that the club that asked for it maintains they have an agreement, but there is no proof.

“Lastly, it should be noted that the requesting club says they have the agreement of the other party, CA Osasuna, but there is no record of this entity responding to the judge’s request,” the only judge remarked.

It should be noted that Madrid began their rest time on July 11 and has had 21 days of continuous rest, as stated in the collective agreement.

The Spanish football federation’s rules don’t say anything about the minimum of 21 extra days for physical and tactical preparation, which Madrid and the players’ union AFE had recommended.

Madrid has two days to appeal the judgment.
