With goals from Nacho and Marco Asensio, Madrid defeated Alaves 2-0, cutting the margin to 10 points with a game in hand. Carlo Ancelotti’s team dominated the game early on. But they were unable to score due to poor finishing and a stellar performance from David Gil in goal for Cadiz.
Real Madrid defeat Cadiz to maintain La Liga lead
Karim Benzema wasted a pair of first-half opportunities, and Rodrgyo came close several times before being stopped by Gil. In contrast, Madrid posed little threat to Cadiz in the first half, despite a counterattack led by defender Alfonso Espino, whose shot hit Courtois’ left post.
In the 72nd minute, Madrid took the lead when Nacho took a pass from Aurelien Tchouameni and blasted a long-distance shot into the bottom left corner. Just four minutes later, Asensio sealed the deal with a shot from the left side of the box that he buried in the bottom left corner. Now that they have finished what needed to be done in the league, Madrid can focus on beating Chelsea in the Champions League.
