PSG sign Benfica midfielder Neves for five years

The Ligue 1 champions announced on Monday that they have signed 19-year-old Portuguese defensive midfielder Joao Neves from Benfica until 2029. PSG and Benfica did not disclose the financial terms, but The Athletic reported that the deal was worth 60 million euros ($66 million) plus 10 million euros in add-ons.

Neves, a Benfica academy product, has made 75 club appearances in all competitions and nine Portugal caps. He won the 2022-23 Primeira Liga and Supertaca Candido de Oliveira with Benfica last year. “Joao is one of the most talented players in Portugal and internationally,” stated PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

“He joined PSG with passion and fought for the jersey, like we demand from all our players. “We continue to build a fantastic young team at PSG — based on teamwork, talent and collective spirit — which is the foundation of our club’s great future.”
