Manchester United have added a fresh member to their team in the form of Portuguese forward Betinho. The 29-year-old is reportedly a new United player, having been listed on the Premier League website among the rest of Erik ten Hag’s team. The website claims Betinho has been given the No.11 jersey. Although United has yet to announce the addition of the player to their ranks, the issue remains unknown.

Ten Hag completed five additions during the summer transfer window. Betinho would be his first in January after being connected with various players to strengthen his side. The Red Devils are fifth in the table, four points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, who dropped points with a 2-2 draw at Brentford on Boxing Day. Betinho began his professional career at Sporting Lisbon, making his senior debut in 2011. It was before moving on to short loan spells at Vitoria Setubal and Brentford.
During the 2014/15 season, he made just one league appearance for the Bees. He was coming on as a substitute in a 3-0 loss to Norwich City. Likewise, Brentford manager Mark Warburton stated that Betinho impressed him in training but needed time to adjust to the English game. However, after sitting on the bench for most first-team games in late September and October and being left out entirely. Plus, Betinho was demoted to the development squad. Betinho departed Sporting in 2015 to join Belenenses on a four-year contract, though the former would retain 60% of his economic rights.
Betinho had a dreadful couple of years. He battled for goals and was loaned back to Sporting’s B side for some much-needed game experience. In 2019, Betinho secured a move to the Portuguese club Espinho. He has scored 18 league goals in 15 appearances. It has surfaced that the former Portugal youth international could be on his way to Old Trafford following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. Following his controversial interview with Piers Morgan, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s contract was mutually ended in November. Ronaldo harshly criticized Ten Hag, declaring that he did not “respect” the Dutchman and criticized the Glazers.
