Reports have said that Barcelona is looking at Fulham and Portugal star Joao Palhinha as a possible target for one of their midfield pivot spots because they have run out of options.

Because of money, Joshua Kimmich and Martin Zubimendi’s choices are almost out of the question. Now, Marcelo Brozovic, who was also a top priority, seems to be going to Saudi Arabian giants Al Nassr.

In this situation, the La Liga winners have looked at Palhinha as a possible replacement. The club’s new sporting director, Deco, is said to like the Portuguese international.

A story from Daily Mail, though, says that Fulham will only think about selling Palhinha this summer if they get an offer of around £90 million (€104.7 million). This would put him out of reach for Barcelona forever.

Palhinha only joined Fulham last year. He came from Sporting CP in a £15 million deal. The 27-year-old had a great first season in the Premier League. He played 35 games and scored three goals. He also made the most saves in the league.

The story says that Deco has personally pushed for the signing of Palhinha, who is also a target for West Ham United. Palhinha could replace Declan Rice and is also a target for West Ham United.

The La Liga winners like the Portuguese international because he can stop attacks and is good with the ball. But the huge price tag of £90 million makes it unlikely that they will move.

Palhinha’s contract with Fulham still has four years left on it, and the club has the chance to add another year to it. So, it gives the Cottagers the upper hand when it comes to talks.

So, even though Deco likes him, it doesn’t look like the 27-year-old will move to Barcelona in the summer.

Instead, Florentino Luis, who is also Portuguese, could be a more affordable choice. SL Benfica is thought to want €30 million for him.
