Chelsea got off to a fast start, winning the ball just seconds after Liverpool began, and had two fantastic chances in the first five minutes. However, neither Joo Félix nor Mateo Kovai could convert those clear-cut openings. That sadly familiar theme continued in the first half with several additional squandered chances and opportunities. Reece James had the ball in the net with a great effort from a distance. But it was (right) ruled out for offside on the initial flick-on from the corner. A second-string Liverpool assault achieved little until the end of the half when Fabinho appeared destined to score. Until Wes Fofana made a crucial block. The second half began similarly to the first, with Kovai squandering a good opportunity.

But then we had the ball in the back of the net again, this time through Kai Havertz, and it looked fine for a split second. Only to be called out again, this time for a handball. It was unintentional, but that is irrelevant. It’s a tough rule, but it’s implemented correctly.

The rest of the Premier League game was much the same, but with growing aggravation and a lack of fluidity or flow. Neither side appeared likely to score, even though both seemed capable of making a royal shambles defensively.
