“Winning this honor is significant and I am proud and grateful. I appreciate being recognized by my peers and thank everyone who voted for me “Foden stated.

“I also want to pay special thanks to Pep, the City coaches and all my teammates as they help me to try and get better every single day.” Foden is targeting a fifth Premier League title after City won 2-0 against Chelsea on Sunday to start their title defense. “Last season was another very special one for everyone at the Club but now all our focus is concentrated on trying to achieve more success this term,” stated.

Foden was awarded Football Writers’ Association footballer of the year and 2023-24 Premier League player of the season. City Football Director Txiki Begiristain said: “Everyone is happy for Phil to win this accolade. Being recognized by your peers is remarkable. “Phil represents everything Manchester City stands for. He is a talented player who always wants to develop.

“He is humble and popular within the Club. Everyone is proud of him.” Foden’s City teammates Erling Haaland, who won last year, Rodri, Cole Palmer, Martin Odegaard, and Ollie Watkins were all on the Player of the Year shortlist. The men’s PFA young player of the year was Chelsea forward Palmer. Foden and Palmer were the first English players to win the senior and young player honors since Wayne Rooney and James Milner in 2009-10.

England international Palmer scored 22 Premier League goals, second only to Haaland, in a breakthrough season. Khadija Shaw won the women’s Player of the Year award at the Manchester presentation, giving City a clean sweep. Shaw led the Women’s Super League with 21 goals, but Chelsea beat City on goal difference. “I am both happy and proud to have received this award, to be recognised in such a way by my peers is a very special honour,” he added.
