Pep Compares Donnarumma and Ederson Styles

On Friday, Pep Guardiola revealed that Gianluigi Donnarumma plays differently than Ederson, who used to be Manchester City’s first-choice custodian. He also said that he won’t make the Italian player do the same things as his predecessor.

After Ederson left for Turkish team Fenerbahce, Donnarumma signed a five-year deal with City from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The Italian custodian recently claimed that he is hopeful about helping the club and getting better under coach Guardiola. He said he will do his best to help the team and follow the manager’s orders.

Before the game against Manchester United on Sunday, Guardiola noted that Ederson has done a lot for City, but Donnarumma is different.

“Ederson helped us make a special way.” “He’s a special guy… Edy has done everything here and won everything,” Guardiola told the press.

“I wouldn’t make Gigi (Donnarumma) do something he doesn’t want to do. We’re not asking Gigi to do what Ederson did; it’s not about putting the other person down. “Different.”

During his stint with the club from 2017 to 2025, Ederson helped City win the Premier League six times, the FA Cup twice, and the Champions League once.

Guardiola remarked that Donnarumma, who has won four Ligue 1 titles and the Champions League with PSG, is tall and will let in goals, but we will help him with that.

“He’s so big. So very tall. That’s what he provides us. He takes up a lot of space. We perform on enormous stages. “He’s going to give up goals, that’s for sure, but we’re all going to try to help him,” the City boss said.

But Guardiola didn’t say if Donnarumma would play against United for the first time.

“I saw him on Wednesday. We (had) a nice talk. Training was on Thursday. He said, “I didn’t see him because I was in my office.”
