8-time La Liga champions sign Liverpool’s Nigerian winger

According to a statement on the club’s official website, Elijah Gift, a winger born in Spain to Nigerian parents, has signed with La Liga powerhouse Athletic Bilbao. Athletic Bilbao has not commented on the length or financial details of the deal, but allnigeriasoccer.com reports that Gift has signed a five-year contract and that Liverpool will receive a one million euro transfer fee for agreeing to terminate their contract with the winger before its expiration.

Athletic Bilbao has emphasized that Liverpool has granted Gift permission to practice with the club pending the finalization of his deal. According to an Athletic Bilbao press release, Gift will begin his professional career with the club’s reserve squad, CD Basconia, playing in the fifth Spanish football division in 2022-2023. The 17-year-old hinted he was leaving Liverpool two days ago, albeit he did not say which team he was joining.

Also, he returned to Instagram on Wednesday to announce his transfer to Athletic Bilbao. Gift expressed his joy at returning to his native country and at the prospect of joining such a prestigious organization. Gift, born in Corella, was almost selected for Spain’s final team at the 2023 European U17 Championship.
