Alexander Isak’s last-minute penalty gave Newcastle’s hopes of making the Champions League a boost. Thus they went on to win 2-1 against Nottingham Forest. The Swedish international scored both goals as the Magpies came from behind to beat the Tricky Trees at the City Ground. These goals hurt the Tricky Trees’ chances of staying in the Premier League even more.

In the first few minutes, the Magpies had most of the ball, but they only had one chance. It came when Alexander Isak’s shot was deflected and Renan Lodi hit his own crossbar. After the visitors didn’t take advantage of their momentum, they were open to a sucker punch. This happened when Sven Botman didn’t deal with Jonjo Shelvey’s long ball forward, which gave Emmanuel Dennis a chance to sneak in and score a great goal past Nick Pope.
Newcastle tried to come back, and Sean Longstaff hit the post for the second time before halftime. Newcastle then tied the game when Isak scored a great goal from Joe Willock’s cross. After the break, substitute Elliot Anderson made Keylor Navas make a great save, and then Keylor Navas stopped Bruno Guimaraes. Anderson then thought he had put his team ahead with a header, but after a long VAR check, the goal was ruled out.
Then, late in the extra time, Isak’s flicked header hit Moussa Niakhate’s arm in the box. Right away, a penalty was given, and Isak stepped up to take it himself, shooting into the top corner to give his team another huge win in their fight for the top four. Forest, on the other hand, still have only two points more than the bottom three.
