Mohamed Salah Backs PSG in Champions League

After an incredible season in which he produced 33 goals and 23 assists across all competitions, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been crowned the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year.

After Arsenal icon Thierry Henry, the Egyptian star ranks only as the second player to three times receive the esteemed trophy. The FWA claims Salah obtained 90 percent of the votes, the best winning margin recorded this century.

Liverpool’s second-time Premier League championship acquisition is a result in great part on Salah’s exceptional exploits five years ago.

Also in contention for a fourth Premier League Golden Boot is the 32-year-old who lately extended his contract with Liverpool for another two years. He is simply one goal or assist away from matching the record for most goal involvement in a single Premier League season.

Salah is barely behind joint-record holders Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, who attained 47 goal involvements during a 42-game season, with 46 goal contributions so far.

Second in the FWA polling is Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk; followed in third and fourth position respectively by Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Arsenal’s Declan Rice. After joining Liverpool, Salah initially won the FWA Footballer of the Year title in the 2017–18 season; he grabbed it once more in the 2021–22 season.

He is still a top choice for both the Players’ Player of the Year and the Premier League Player of the Season. Notable football players include Cristiano Ronaldo, who has claimed it several times, and Jordan Henderson have past won the trophy. From 2002–03 to 2005–06 Thierry Henry notably won it four times consecutively.
