Mission Accomplished: Ancelotti Celebrates Madrid’s Cup Final

Said Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti after his team battled back from two-goals behind to secure a rip-roaring 4-4 draw on Tuesday for a 5-4 aggregate triumph that qualified them for the Copa del Rey final. Ancelotti dismissed enquiries on a less-than-perfect performance by his side and commended his players’ commitment in what he thought to be a quite interesting game.

“We have reached our goal today which was to reach the final and there is not much time to think about it,” Ancelotti said at a news conference.

“This was a fun game with many excellent features mixed with some errors. We are in the final; it was enjoyable.

“Everything can happen at the Bernabeu, hence I never saw us out of it. We never quit when we have to come from behind. Particularly at home with the supporters at our side, we never give up.

After David Alaba diverted two balls into his own goal, Ancelotti declared, “bad luck” by the Austrian defender, but he advised his defence to play with more clarity going forward.

“Conceding four goals in a game is not good,” Ancelotti remarked.

” Right now, our squad exhibits minimal balance but great initial efficacy.

“We cannot, however, overlook what we achieved in attack; scoring four goals against Real is not that simple. We are definitely going really nicely.

Real Madrid, who just once won the Spanish Cup over ten years, will play either Barcelona or Atletico Madrid in a mouthwatering final in Seville next month. Atletico battled back to keep Barca to a fantastic 4-4 draw ahead of Madrid’s second-leg on Wednesday.
