The Argentinean forward Lionel Messi, the legendary of his country, has left his mark on the world of football once again, becoming the winner of the Major League Soccer (MLS) MVP award in one of the two consecutive years. This outstanding achievement qualifies him as the only player in the history of MLS to have won two consecutive MVP awards and further establishes his supremacy in the league since he joined Inter Miami in mid-2023.
Messi is 38 years old and is still playing on the same level as his peers have never done. The season of 2025 was not a simple one in terms of his achievements, and Inter Miami achieved the desired MLS Cup. During the normal season, Messi produced an impressive 29 goals, which is the fourth most produced goals in any MLS season, and 19 assists, demonstrating the next round of brilliance as a goal-scorer and provider.
Messi was humbled when he received the award and thanked everyone who helped him and the team to succeed instead of receiving personal awards. He was thrilled with this award, and it was also the first time in the history of this league that he won it in two consecutive years. I am grateful, very glad, but I would like my teammates to share it.
It is a continuation of a streak of achievements of Messi who became an MLS MVP winner in 2024 after scoring 20 goals and 16 assists in only 19 games. His contribution towards American soccer has been revolutionary both in the field and outside the field.
Prior to Messi, just one other player had won 2 MVPs (Preki, 1997, 2003). However, no one had ever won them on the same season making the performance of Messi unique.
Messi has assisted Inter Miami in winning the Leagues Cup, the 2024 Supporters Shield and currently the 2025 MLS cup since his arrival in 2023 to Paris Saint-Germain; turning the franchise into a championship winning team.
Not only does the most recent MVP win of Messi mark a historic moment but it also confirms to the world that Messi is one of the best ever players in the history of the sport even in his late days.
