Mbappe Supports Morocco at AFCON Match

Kylian Mbappe, the star of Real Madrid, made an unexpected visit on Sunday evening to the Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat and was caught watching the Morocco vs Mali match at the ongoing Africa cup of nations (AFCON).

The French striker immediately attracted attention when he showed up in the seats with a Moroccan national team jersey in particular, and the number 2 of Paris Saint-Germain and a Moroccan right-back Achraf Hakimi on it. This act was largely seen as an indication that he was on the side of his close friend and a former club mate.

Mbappe and Hakimi were close friends as they were both playing in the same team in Paris Saint-Germain, and the friendship between the two did not stop even when Mbappe left the Parisian club on high profile. The two players have often addressed the press on how they both respect each other both on and off the field.

This game was the second in the tournament to be played by Morocco in a group stage after they had a resounding 2-0 win over Comoros in the first game. The Atlas Lions went into the match with a lot of confidence in an attempt to enhance their chances of qualification to the knockout stages.

Some high profile personalities were also in attendance at the stadium and some of them were Fouzi Lekjaa, the President of Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and Patrice Motsepe, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Their appearance made it understandable the relevance of the fixture in the tournament.

Jamel Debbouze, a Moroccan-French comedian and actor was also spotted in the crowd showing his pride with wearing a Moroccan jersey, and cheering along with the rest of the fans.

After the Mali encounter, Morocco will be playing against Zambia on Monday, an encounter which would enable them to secure a spot in the round of 16 in AFCON in case they are able to round up three more points.
