Mbappe Stands Firm Against Swedish Media Rape News

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe said on Monday he was the victim of “fake news” after a Swedish newspaper reported that an investigation had been opened for rape following the visit of the entourage of the French footballer to Stockholm.

The 25-year-old Mbappe, meanwhile, posted on X that the connection between the Aftonbladet tabloid’s report and his appearance before a French league committee on Tuesday as part of his bitter dispute over unpaid wages with his old club PSG.

“FAKE NEWS !!!!. It is so predictable, on the eve of the hearing, as if it was a coincidence,” Mbappe wrote. His entourage immediately described the report as a “slanderous rumour” and threatened to sue the paper. The 24-year-old Mbappe claims $60 million in back pay is owed to him by the Qatar-owned French champions.

The 2018 World Cup winner was not selected for France’s Nations League fixtures last week, and spent Thursday and Friday in the Swedish capital where he dined at a restaurant with a group of people. According to the report from Aftonbladet, the French footballer then went to a nightclub. Aftonbladet cited the complaint, filed after the alleged victim had gone to the hospital but did not say who was named in the accusation.

A source close to PSG said it would “ignore” the claim from Mbappe that there was a connection between the report in Sweden and his dispute with the club. Mbappe moved to Madrid in the summer after seven years at PSG.
