Mbappe Hits ‘Rock Bottom’ With Penalty Miss at Bilbao

After missing a penalty at Athletic Bilbao earlier this month, Kylian Mbappe hit “rock bottom” as he battled to adjust to Real Madrid, but he used the disappointment to drive his recent comeback to form.

As Paris St. Germain’s all-time best scorer, Mbappe joined Real in the off-season, but teething issues, a hamstring ailment, and a thigh issue have slowed his adjustment. Since missing his second penalty in a week in a 2-1 loss at Bilbao, Mbappe has scored four goals in all competitions, including the opening in Sunday’s 4-2 LaLiga triumph over Sevilla.

I gained a lot from the Bilbao game. Real Madrid TV reported his breakdown. “I missed a penalty and I realised at that moment I have to give my all for this shirt and play with personality.”

Mbappe has 10 league goals in 16 games, helping Real finish second, a point behind Atletico Madrid.

“I know I can score more and contribute more. My last several games have been better “stated.

I think we know each other better. Joining the team altered a lot. Coach: The settling-in period is over. I perform better with teammates because I feel comfortable.” Real play Valencia in LaLiga on Jan. 3.
