Mbappe brings PSG wage issue to French league committee

An insider told AFP on Monday that Kylian Mbappe has reported his former club Paris Saint-Germain to the French league’s disciplinary committee for unpaid salary and bonuses. The league (LFP) source claimed a hearing will be held on December 11 over PSG’s refusal to pay 55 million euros ($57.9m) to the striker, who joined Real Madrid in June.

The LFP ordered PSG to pay Mbappe his Parc des Princes debt, but in October, they refused because the player had waived it in August 2023. Last month, the French Football Federation denied Qatar-owned PSG’s plea to reassess Mbappe’s payment since it was a day late.

According to French league rules, PSG might be fined or banned from signing players. PSG believe the LFP cannot decide the dispute and that an industrial tribunal must hear it. The disagreement stems from an August agreement last year.

The France captain was benched by PSG for refusing to renew a contract that expired in June. If Mbappe departed, an extension would have allowed PSG to receive a transfer fee, but he joined Real by freedom of contract.

That agreement said that Mbappe would waive 55 million euros in bonuses if he moved for free after the 2023/24 season. In January, Mbappe alluded to the deal before the public. His crew disputes its legality.
