Manchester City is close to finalizing a deal for one of Europe’s quickest players. The team coached by Pep Guardiola is still in with a chance to win the triple. John Stones, formerly a center back, has moved to the midfield as part of the Catalan’s reshaping of the team, which could lead to the addition of even more talented players.
Manchester City to sign €70m superstar who may become Premier League fastest player
With the impending permanent departure of Bayern Munich loanee Joao Cancelo, the need for an upgrade at left back has arguably increased over the past year. Marc Cucurella was wanted(opens in new tab) before his move to Chelsea. City are reportedly increasing their interest in Canadian fullback Alphonso Davies(opens in new tab), and are prepared to compete with Real Madrid for his signature.
In recent games, Guardiola has favored Nathan Ake at left back and utilized four central defenders. With a left-footed player on that side, City could spread the field and put Jack Grealish in an advantageous position to invert. While the Bundesliga star can switch to attack, Davies would allow City to play with an overlapping full-back. Guardiola, ever the trendsetter, may soon alter the team’s dynamic in an effort to stay competitive.
If City were to get Davies, one of the fastest players in Europe, they might have the fastest Premier League star. Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez is now the league’s fastest player.
Real Madrid will compete with City for the Canadian’s signing, having yet to replace Marcelo. They normally start Ferland Mendy at left back, but he’s been injured recently, so Eduardo Camavinga and Nacho have been playing there instead.
