Madrid loan Joselu from Espanyol

Joselu, a forward for Espanyol and Spain, has been loaned to Real Madrid for a season, but the club has the option to make the deal permanent. This was revealed by the club on Monday.

Joselu, who is 33 years old, scored 16 LaLiga goals for Espanyol last season, when they were kicked out of Spain’s top league. Only Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema scored more goals for their teams.

He was on Spain’s team for the last four of the UEFA Nations League. After coming on as a replacement in the 84th minute of their 2-1 semifinal win over Italy, he scored the game-winning goal.

Madrid has been trying to sign a striker since Benzema and Mariano Diaz left the club this month, leaving only Vinicius Junior and Rodrigo as experienced forwards.

Joselu, whose full name is Jose Luis Mato Sanmartin, joined Real Madrid from Celta Vigo in 2009. In 2011-12, he scored 26 goals for Real Madrid Castilla, which is the team’s backup team.

In May 2011, he played for the first team once and scored in an 8-1 win over Almeria. After that, he moved to Germany to play for Hoffenheim.

Joselu then played for Eintracht Frankfurt, Hannover 96, Stoke City, Deportivo La Coruna, and Newcastle United before he found his scoring touch again at Alaves. From 2019 to 2022, he scored 36 LaLiga goals over three seasons.

When he moved to Espanyol in July of last year, he got into the best shape of his career. In March, at the age of 32, Spain called him up for the first time, and he scored twice in three minutes as Spain beat Norway 3-0 in a Euro 2024 qualifying game.

India’s win at the 2023 Intercontinental Cup was a big deal for many reasons. It was their first win over Lebanon since 1977, their first win in a final since the 2021 SAFF Championship, and they tied a streak of six clean sheets in a row that had only been done once before, in 1951–1952.

This year, Igor Stimac has won two events, including the Tri-Nations Series in Imphal in March. With the SAFF Championship, King’s Cup, and Merdeka Tournament still to come, he could end up with a lot of trophies.
