Luis Enrique Warns PSG Ahead of Liverpool Clash

When both clubs square off in their Champions League last 16 first leg on Wednesday, Paris St Germain will be trying to force their game on Liverpool to evade the Merseyside’s attacking ‘fighter jets’.

Drawing the other two, PSG had a difficult start to the season but rediscovered their footing late 2024 to win 18 of their last 20 competitive games.

With a 10-0 overall triumph against another Ligue 1 team Stade Brestois, the French side has also qualified through the Champions League playoffs with 21 goals in their past four games.

But in Liverpool, they contend with one of the toughest teams in Europe, for PSG coach Luis Enrique, a “source of motivation”.

“It will be really intense. On paper, it ranks among the finest matchups available in Europe. Regarding counter attacking, Luis Enrique said in a Tuesday press conference that they are among the greatest teams.

“We have to watch out not to experience their transformations. If we don’t force our game on them, it is difficult to stop three fighter jets in assault.

The Spanish coach made hints that the Ligue 1 winners would be dangerous if they could control possession, even while he would not specifically name the sectors in which PSG thinks to be better than Liverpool.

“We’re going to need the ball. We might not be as strong physically, but we are among the top sides in possession in Europe,” he said.

Going into the tournament, PSG have no injury worries; they will be resolved at Anfield next Tuesday.

“The first game won’t decide who gets through,” Luis Enrique stated.

” Of course I would take that if we lost at home and then won (and qualified) at Anfield.”
