Arne Slot, the Liverpool manager, has encouraged fans to be patient with the club’s record signing, Alexander Isak, who is still undergoing rehabilitation ahead of this weekend’s Premier League match against Manchester City.
Isak, an arrival of Newcastle United on a historic transfer of £125 million in September, also went back to training on Friday, after three weeks of rehabilitation. The Swedish striker has not played since he was replaced in Liverpool’s victory against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League last month.
In his pre-match press meeting, Slot was impressed with the development that Isak was making but warned that it would take time before the 25-year-old is fit enough to play a full match.
Slot said that he will join the team on training again three weeks after. Rehab does not restore you to the heights that you used to be.
The season has been rocky in Liverpool, with injuries and lack of consistency being the major setbacks in their quest to win the Premier League title. The Reds are now in sixth place, behind Arsenal and Manchester City in the table, with the two competitors seeking to reduce the half-dozen gap between them and the league leaders.
The Dutch manager also provided a good news regarding goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who has been out of action since the beginning of October due to hamstring injury.
Slot told reporters that Alisson is sure and that Jeremie should also come back after the international break because we play between November and March.
