Liverpool Rally for Stunning Leicester Win

Liverpool rallied back after losing early to beat Leicester City 3-1 at Anfield on Thursday and create a seven-point advantage at the top of the Premier League. Struggling Leicester took a stunning sixth minute lead through Jordan Ayew but led a charmed life until Cody Gakpo equalized on the stroke of halftime.

Liverpool then placed Leicester under siege straight from the interval and required just four minutes into the second half to go ahead via Curtis Jones before Mohamed Salah made sure of the points with a magnificent 82nd-minute goal. Liverpool’s unbeaten streak reached 13 games and they topped the league with 42 points. They have a game over second-placed Chelsea (35) and third-placed Nottingham Forest (34).

Leicester stunned the Anfield fans with their early goal when Stephy Mavididi’s run down the left ended in a square ball into the penalty box that found Ayew, who used his muscle to beat Andy Robertson and then slot home.

Well-deserved equaliser

Salah’s looping left-footed shot hit the crossbar in the 45th minute, while Robertson’s header hit the upright in the 25th. Seconds later, Gakpo cut in from the left and curled a shot past Leicester custodian Jakub Stolarczyk for a well-deserved equaliser.

“It sounds weird, but I think we had a really good start,” remarked Liverpool manager Arne Slot.

We scored after underestimating the scenario. You have to work hard to get back in, and scoring the equaliser before halftime helped.” Jones scored after Liverpool moved the ball around in tight places and Alexis Mac Allister put in a square pass.

The goal was confirmed after a prolonged VAR examination, and Gakpo scored again in the 67th minute after another delay. Offside was called. Salah scored his 100th home Premier League goal with a trademark cut inside off the right flank and a well-placed finish across the net.

“Our situation is good. Our team’s strength is that we approach each game as a fresh one, which keeps us hungry and working hard “Gakpo remarked.
