Lionel Messi ranks among the Top 50 richest Argentinians

Lionel Messi, the Argentine national team captain, is one of Forbes’ Top 50 richest Argentinians with $950 million.

Messi is “the only athlete in the Forbes rankings” of the richest men in the country, notes the same source. His career net worth is estimated at $950 million after taxes. He earned $1.5 billion by June 2024.

At $20 million a year, Messi is the highest-paid footballer in the US tournament, according to Forbes. The franchise and Apple TV deal, believed to pay him $50 million, is not included.

The 30th-ranked Qatari champion and eight-time Ballon d’Or winner sponsors Adidas, YPF, Gatorade, Lay’s, Pepsi, Mastercard, and Cirque du Soleil. Jorge Messi, Messi’s father, runs the family enterprises and invests in hospitality, real estate, and fashion.

Marcos Galperin, owner of Mercado Libre, Latin America’s largest digital company, is the richest Argentine in 2024 with $8.5 billion. According to the same statistic, the 50 richest Argentinians own roughly $78 billion, 12.1% of 2023 GDP.

Hugo Sigman (pharmaceuticals) and Alejandro Bulgheroni (oil) finish second and third. The wealthiest Argentinians’ total increased 68% from 2020’s list, issued during the pandemic. The new Top 50 includes self-taught entrepreneurs and heirs for the first time.
