Lionel Messi, the Argentine national team captain, is one of Forbes’ Top 50 richest Argentinians with $950 million.

Messi is “the only athlete in the Forbes rankings” of the richest men in the country, notes the same source. His career net worth is estimated at $950 million after taxes. He earned $1.5 billion by June 2024.

At $20 million a year, Messi is the highest-paid footballer in the US tournament, according to Forbes. The franchise and Apple TV deal, believed to pay him $50 million, is not included.

Marcos Galperin, owner of Mercado Libre, Latin America’s largest digital company, is the richest Argentine in 2024 with $8.5 billion. According to the same statistic, the 50 richest Argentinians own roughly $78 billion, 12.1% of 2023 GDP.

Hugo Sigman (pharmaceuticals) and Alejandro Bulgheroni (oil) finish second and third. The wealthiest Argentinians’ total increased 68% from 2020’s list, issued during the pandemic. The new Top 50 includes self-taught entrepreneurs and heirs for the first time.
