Lionel Messi could miss Paris Saint-UEFA Germain’s Champions League round of 16 match against Bayern Munich next week due to a hamstring injury (watch all Champions League action on Paramount+). This comes barely 24 hours after he was knocked out of the Coupe de France encounter against Olympique de Marseille.
Lionel Messi injury: PSG to train Monday before Bayern Munich Champions League match
The French champions are already missing Kylian Mbappe due to injury. Neymar, Marco Verratti, and Sergio Ramos have only recently returned to action following injuries and suspensions, so losing the Argentine FIFA 2022 World Cup winner for AS Monaco in Ligue 1 this weekend is a blow.
It might get worse if he isn’t ready for the UCL comeback. Without Messi and Mbappe facing the German giants next week, Christophe Galtier’s players will face a difficult task in the first leg against Julian Nagelsmann’s Bundesliga leaders.
Messi’s hamstring injury has already ruled him out of Saturday’s trip to Monaco to face Mbappe’s former club. The 35-year-old sustained the injury in Les Parisiens’ 2-1 loss to Marseille at Stade Velodrome, denying them the Coupe de France trophy for the second consecutive season. PSG remain confident that he will be healthy for their Valentine’s Day match against Bayern on Paramount+ and CBS, although Achraf Hakimi may also be out with a hamstring injury.
When Galtier fronted the press on Friday during a busy and challenging run of games, the Ligue 1 leaders officially acknowledged Messi’s injury. After Bayern, PSG will host Lille OSC before returning to Marseille to cap a gruelling February at Stade Velodrome, where Messi received this injury.
